Distribution of Protein over the course of the day and its effect on Fat Loss

Small changes can make meaningful differences..

In this recent study they looked at the distribution of Protein over the course of the day and its effect on Fat Loss in Older Obese Patients.

In both groups, baseline protein intake was skewed towards dinner time intake (PA+SA: 49.1{2658607c068490114260e14c260e6ae174f4b10b752c604f4a58b348bf83bb16}; PA+WL: 54.1{2658607c068490114260e14c260e6ae174f4b10b752c604f4a58b348bf83bb16}).

IE they consumed about 50{2658607c068490114260e14c260e6ae174f4b10b752c604f4a58b348bf83bb16} of their Protein intake at dinner..

In one of the groups ( PA+WL ) over time they skewed the pattern of Protein intake towards a more even within-day distribution but it remained unchanged in the other (PA+SA ) Group

The gradual transition towards a more even pattern of protein intake was independently associated with a greater decline in BMI (P<0.05) and abdominal subcutaneous fat (P<0.05) in PA+WL.

Takeaway ?

No surprises for me at least …. its just always nice to see the body of supportive evidence grow.

I have always said take your total Protein intake for the day, divide it relatively evenly by the number of meals you will consume that day ie 4 – 6 Meals a day and ” spread them out evenly” over the course of the Day… 101 stuff..

It’s of benefit to everyone… from Bodybuilders to the Elderly needing to offset the effects of Sarcopenia, to the Obese needing to loose Fat NOT muscle ie scale weight.
