Muscle atrophy in patients with Type 2 Diabetes.
Turning Lemons into Lemonade..
In the last post I made about Hair Loss someone I don’t know.. asked me if my “small arms” where are result of muscle wasting consequential to advanced Adult onset Diabetes brought on my abusive use of Insulin.
I am not gunna lie, yes sort of got my hackles up a little, yah
For those that dont know this is disease state that is defined by the pot belly and atrophied limbs we associate with guys like Big Lenny..
Now I dont even know if Big Lennie is a Type II Diabetic, but he certain presents those outwards symptoms.. I would be certainly happy to ask him that question.. I think for him its a fair question.
But lets explain the fact heres.. Turning Lemons into Lemonade..
Yes agreed one of the visual outwards symptoms of this condition.. muscular atrophy.. is a very real world outcome consequential to Diabetic Neuropathy.
Muscle atrophy occurs in response to many insults, including prolonged disuse, ageing and chronic disease such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM)
Muscle atrophy is the result of a negative balance between the rate of contractile protein synthesis and degradation.
Patients with advanced Type II Diabetes exhibit muscle atrophy that is initially mild in middle age and becomes more substantial with older age and diabetic neuropathy.
This loss of muscle leads to decreased strength, functional capacity and ultimately increased mortality in patients with T2DM
Insulin resistance promotes atrophy signalling in Type II Diabetes
Insulin resistance that is at least partially derived from systemic inflammation in T2DM and obesity is a key contributor to muscle atrophy signalling.
This is precisely why I make posts like I did 2 days ago..
” Trends are really what matters.. “
It can take 6 – 8 weeks to really start to drive Metabolic Markers in the direction we need to move them..
This is exactly why I ask guys to give me 12 weeks..
Insulin Sensitivity along with Sleep Hygiene are the two most under rated, under discussed and misunderstood pillars of long term success
From ” Pre-diebetic” to ” very good” takes a few weeks..

Insulin Sensitivity along with Sleep Hygiene are the two most under rated, under discussed and misunderstood pillars of long term success
From ” Pre-diebetic” to ” very good” takes a few weeks..
So lets be clear here.
Yes Muscle Atrophy from this condition is a ” real thing” – agreed
Yes abuse of many factors in our lifestyle could viability lead to this condition.. firstly Type II Diabetes and then diabetic neuropathy. – agreed
Do I think ” Big Lennie” might have the condition ?
Yes honestly and I would happily ask him.. I have tried to find the most flattering photo of him I could.. here.. I went out of my way to find his best stage shot not his worst.
So
Protect your Insulin Sensitivity..
Monitor your Blood Glucose..
Type II Diabetes is no joke..
and No
I dont have advanced Type II Diabates caused my abuse of PEDs that has lead to the loss of Muscle Tissue in my Arms haha
